Major Label Marketing research (A01/A04): Music Video Analysis

How much does the average music video cost to make?

The budget for the average music video is between $200,000-$500,000.
The most expensive music video ever made was Michael Jackson & Janet Jackson- Scream, in 1995. The video production cost over $7000000.

What is the purpose of a music video?

Music videos are used to publicise an artist and promote their image. Often music videos are used to promote a new single or album. Music videos are also used as a visual aid to illustrate   the "meaning" of the song. Music videos can also be used to change or feed into a stars image.

The basic structure of a music video is a 3-4 minute video with a combination of live performances showing the band/artist performing, the crowd at a show and the artist back stage warming up and "fooling around" with other band mates. A music video will usually include clips of the artist in their "real life" environment with close ups of the artist to advertise their visual appearance.  Often artists are shown to be performing in unusual places such as empty fields. In Dappy's video "No Regrets" he is shown lip synching to the song on a rooftop.  Music videos often also have a narrative with a strong theme. All these things in the music video are used to advertise the artists star persona and their single and album.

Major Label Marketing research (A01/A04): Webpage Analysis

Analyse website 400 words

Wretch 32 webpage has a very simple theme. The main colours are black and white, there is a lot of empty space on the webpage. There are 3 large photos in the middle of the page, these photos show 3 different sides of the artist. The first photo shows wretch 32 trying to show that his life isn't as different to a regular person as it would seem, this is shown by the artist looking in deep thought. The second photo shows the artist looking at something, the last photo is of the artist at work. The three photos together give the impression that the artist does the has the same life as everyone else; he goes out with friends the second could be him watching tv and the third i the artist at work.

In the top corner of the webpage shows synergy, there is a link to his facebook page, twitter and instagram. This i so that fans can keep up to date with what he is doing and when. The artist logo is shown twice, this is to catch the eye of the person viewing the webpage, and to keep the logo in their memory.
